Pre-Exam Readiness

Before exam day, confirm that all preparation activities are complete and aligned:

  • All examinees are marked eligible to sit in the Jurisdiction Portal.
  • All examinees have reached “Requirements Met” status (Candidate Portal completion).
  • Testing locations are configured and capacity is confirmed.
  • All examinees are assigned to testing locations and rooms.
  • Duplicate records and PII conflicts have been resolved.
  • Accommodations are approved and fully implemented (rooming, timing, materials).
  • Staff roles are assigned and trained (room leads, proctors, technical proctors).
  • All staff have system access (Jurisdiction Portal, Exam Day Portal).
  • Test security procedures are reviewed and understood.
  • Exam schedule (standard and accommodated) is confirmed and communicated.
     

Exam-Day Administration

During the exam, focus on consistency, control, and timely response to issues:

  • Check-in is controlled and verified:
    • ID is confirmed, devices and power cords are present.
    • Prohibited items are secured.
  • All examinees are
    • seated in assigned locations;
    • connected to Wi-Fi; and
    • logged in to the secure browser.
  • All examinees reach “Waiting for Proctor Approval” before launch.
  • Counts match between physical room and system before starting.
  • Exam is launched on schedule and consistently across the room.
  • During testing:
    • Room remains quiet, orderly, and actively monitored.
    • Technical issues are routed to technical proctor.
    • Patterns or system-wide issues are escalated immediately.
    • Irregularities are documented clearly.
  • Breaks are monitored and security procedures are followed.
  • At section end:
    • 10-minute warning is provided.
    • All examinees reach “Section Submitted” before dismissal.
    • Dismissal is controlled and orderly.
       

Post-Exam Follow-Through

After testing, ensure all documentation and scoring processes are completed accurately:

  • Attendance is confirmed (present, absent, incomplete).
  • All irregularities are documented and submitted.
  • All required administrative forms are completed.
  • Grading responsibilities are initiated and tracked (if applicable).
  • All scoring data are submitted through the grading platform.
  • NCBE completes
    • equating, scaling, and score calculation; and
    • quality assurance checks.
  • Jurisdiction responsibilities:
    • Receive and review score reports.
    • Apply passing standards and make admission decisions.
    • Communicate results to candidates clearly and on schedule.
  • Score portability policies are applied as defined by the jurisdiction.
